Calculation Formula

Total Cost = (Distance ÷ Fuel Efficiency) × Gas Price

Where:
Distance - The distance you plan to travel
Fuel Efficiency - Miles per gallon your vehicle gets
Gas Price - Cost per gallon of gas

Fuel Needed (gallons):

Gas Price Calculator Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the Gas Price Calculator and its working principles

How to Use the Gas Price Calculator

  1. Enter the distance of your trip in miles
  2. Input your vehicle's fuel efficiency in miles per gallon (MPG)
  3. Enter the current price of gas per gallon
  4. Click the "Calculate" button to see the results
  5. Use "Reset" to clear all inputs and start over

Understanding the Results

The calculator provides three key pieces of information:

  • Fuel Needed (gallons): The total amount of gas required for your trip
  • Total Cost ($): The estimated cost of gas for your entire trip
  • Cost per Mile ($): The cost of gas per mile driven

Working Principle

The calculator uses the formula:

Total Cost = (Distance ÷ Fuel Efficiency) × Gas Price

This formula calculates how much gas is needed for the trip (Distance ÷ Fuel Efficiency) and then multiplies by the cost per gallon of gas to determine the total expense.

Practical Tips

Use this calculator to:

  • Compare the cost of different trips
  • Plan your travel budget
  • Understand how fuel efficiency impacts your expenses
  • Make informed decisions about carpooling or using public transportation
