Calculation Formula

PHV = AADT × (Peak Hour Percentage / 100)

Where:
PHV = Peak Hour Volume
AADT = Annual Average Daily Traffic
Peak Hour Percentage = Percentage of traffic during the peak hour

Result

Peak Hour Volume (PHV): 0

Peak Hour Volume Calculator Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the Peak Hour Volume Calculator calculator and its working principles

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter the Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) in the first input field. This is the average number of vehicles passing a specific point on a road per day over a year.
  2. Enter the Peak Hour Percentage in the second input field. This is the percentage of the total daily traffic that occurs during the peak hour.
  3. Click the "Calculate" button to compute the Peak Hour Volume (PHV).
  4. The result will be displayed in the result section.

Working Principle

The Peak Hour Volume (PHV) is calculated by multiplying the Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) by the peak hour percentage. This gives an estimate of the number of vehicles that would pass through a point during the busiest hour of the day.

Example

If a road has an AADT of 5,000 vehicles and the peak hour percentage is 15%, the PHV would be:

PHV = 5,000 × (15 / 100) = 750 vehicles

This means that during the peak hour, approximately 750 vehicles are expected to pass through the road.
