How to Use the Calculator
- Enter the distance of the transportation in miles.
- Enter the weight of the cargo in kilograms.
- Enter the current fuel price per gallon.
- Enter the fuel efficiency of the vehicle in miles per gallon (MPG).
- Click the "Calculate" button to get the transportation cost.
- Use the "Reset" button to clear all inputs and start over.
Working Principle
This calculator estimates transportation costs based on three main factors:
- Fuel Consumption: Calculated by dividing the distance by the fuel efficiency (MPG) and multiplying by the fuel price.
- Weight Cost: Additional cost based on the weight of the cargo. The calculator adds a fixed amount per kilogram of cargo.
- Total Cost: The sum of fuel consumption and weight cost.
Example
For a transportation of 100 miles with a cargo weight of 500 kg, using a vehicle with 20 MPG fuel efficiency and a fuel price of $3.50 per gallon:
Fuel Consumption = (100 ÷ 20) × $3.50 = $17.50
Weight Cost = 500 kg × $0.10/kg = $50.00
Total Cost = $17.50 + $50.00 = $67.50
Applications
This calculator can be used by:
- Freight companies to estimate delivery costs
- Businesses to budget for transportation expenses
- Individuals planning long-distance moves
- Logistics managers to compare transportation options
