How to Use the Calculator
- Enter the total distance of your hike in kilometers (km).
- Enter the total time you spent hiking in hours (h). For more accuracy, include minutes as decimals (e.g., 1.5 hours).
- Enter the total elevation gain of your hike in meters (m).
- Click the "Calculate" button to see your hiking rate and other metrics.
- Use the "Reset" button to clear all inputs and start over.
Understanding the Results
- Hiking Rate (km/h): This is your average speed during the hike. A typical hiking pace is 3-5 km/h.
- Pace (min/km): This is the time it takes you to hike one kilometer. A typical hiking pace is 15-20 min/km.
- Elevation Gain (m): The total meters of vertical climb during your hike.
- Calories Estimate: An approximate number of calories burned during your hike. This estimate assumes an average body weight and hiking intensity.
Principles of the Calculation
The calculator uses the basic formula:
Hiking Rate (km/h) = Distance (km) / Time (h)
The pace is calculated as:
Pace (min/km) = Time (h) / Distance (km) * 60
The calorie estimate is a rough approximation based on hiking rate and duration.
