Crush and Run Calculator

Calculate the volume of material needed for crush and run aggregate, based on area, depth, and material density

Input Parameters

Calculation Results

Calculation Formula

Volume (yd³) = Area (sq ft) × Depth (in) × 0.0037

Where:
Area is the area to be covered in square feet
Depth is the depth of material in inches
0.0037 is the conversion factor from cubic feet to cubic yards

Crush and Run Calculator Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the Crush and Run Calculator to estimate material quantity for your project

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the area you want to cover in square feet (e.g., for a 10' × 20' area, enter 200).
  2. Enter the desired depth of the crush and run material in inches (e.g., 3 inches for a 3-inch layer).
  3. Enter the material density in pounds per cubic yard (common densities range from 100-160 lbs/cu yd for crushed stone).
  4. Click the "Calculate" button to get the volume in cubic yards and the estimated weight in tons.

Understanding the Results

The calculator provides two key results:

  • Volume (Cubic Yards): The amount of material needed in cubic yards.
  • Weight (Tons): The estimated weight of the material needed in tons.

Example Calculation

For a 500 sq ft area with a 4-inch depth of crush and run material with a density of 120 lbs/cu yd:

  1. Volume = 500 sq ft × 4 in × 0.0037 = 7.4 cubic yards
  2. Weight = 7.4 cu yd × 120 lbs/cu yd ÷ 2000 = 0.444 tons

Practical Tips

  • It's recommended to add about 10-15% extra material to account for compaction and waste.
  • Always verify material densities with your supplier, as they can vary based on the specific material.
  • For larger projects, consider consulting with a civil engineer or construction professional.
